Principal’s Message

25 June 2024

Dear families and friends,

As we reach the end of Semester One, I am proud to reflect on all that we have achieved together throughout that time. We are a busy College community and I am most grateful for the staff and parents who support our numerous activities both within the classroom and beyond.

Our Inter-House Athletics Carnival was held on Friday 14 June 2024 and was a wonderful event that brought our community together. After several cold and wet days, we were fortunate to enjoy perfect weather, setting the stage for a great day for all in attendance. Congratulations to all our year level champions for showcasing their outstanding sporting abilities, and to every student who gave their utmost effort. I’m delighted to announce that Mutien House has emerged as this year’s Champion House, demonstrating remarkable determination and teamwork. Yet, the true essence of the event was seen in the collective participation and the inspiring Lasallian spirit that infused every moment. It was truly heartening to witness students giving their all, displaying leadership by supporting younger peers and stepping up whenever their team needed an additional runner, jumper, or thrower.

This Carnival was not just about winning but about celebrating our community. The enthusiasm and dedication of everyone involved made it a memorable day. Congratulations to all participants, and a special thank you to our parents and staff for their unwavering support on the day. I would also like to extend my gratitude to Mr Riley Milligan, our Sports Coordinator, and the Health and Physical Education and Maintenance staff for their exceptional efforts in organising the event.

Working in partnership with parents is a key focus for our College community. Semester One reports are one way of providing parents with feedback about their son or daughter’s academic progress. As I have mentioned before, I encourage parents to keep abreast of academic progress throughout the Semester by regularly monitoring SEQTA Engage. Reports will be available online through SEQTA Engage by 3.30pm 28 June 2024. Parents and carers can effectively engage with this valuable feedback by thoroughly reviewing them, celebrating achievements, discussing the results with their children, setting goals together, identifying needs and planning to implement small improvements in the future, if warranted.

Finally, I extend my best wishes to our talented musicians and singers who will be showcasing their skills at the 2024 Australian International Music Festival, hosted at the Sydney Opera House and various venues across Sydney. Having had the privilege of hearing their impressive repertoire at the Preview Concert on Friday, 21 June 2024, in the College Auditorium, I am confident they will represent our Lasallian community with distinction. These students have diligently prepared for this event under the expert guidance of Ms Samantha Ashman and Ms. Heidi Lake, committing themselves to early morning and late afternoon practice sessions over many months. I also want to acknowledge the invaluable support of their parents, whose encouragement and dedication have undoubtedly played a crucial role in their journey.

In closing, may God bless our students and families over the upcoming holidays, while we all take time for some rest after a busy term.

Term 3 is an important academic term for all students and commences on Tuesday 16 July 2024.
