08 March 2019

International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on 8 March all over the world.

The theme for International Women’s Day 2019 is #BalanceforBetter, celebrating the role everyone can play in creating a more gender-balanced and equal future.

This week Ms Kristy Meyers' Childcare classes had the privilege of  hearing from four guest speakers.   Yesterday, Ms Erica Meuller, Events Manager from the City of Perth discussed her studies and her role as an Events Manager. Noongar Elder, Roma, also gave her words of wisdom and encouragement to students.

Today Ms Giovanna Fiume, La Salle College Principal spoke about her journey to becoming a female principal and Ms Brooke Blurton, Social Worker and Aboriginal Liaison Officer spoke about her life, the challenges she faced, and what inspired her to become a social worker.

At the conclusion of the sessions, the cutting of the International Women's Day cake made by the Certificate III Hospitality students and decorated by the College's female boarding students took place.

"We thank our guest speakers for their inspiring words and sharing their journey with us".
Ms Kristy Meyers, Childcare Teacher.
