CHEMISTRY - YEAR 8 TRANSITION

Chemistry is the study of matter, its properties, how and why substances combine or separate to form other substances, and how substances interact with energy.

This week, the Year 8 Transition students in Ms Natalie Trew's Chemistry class were learning the difference between a substance that is soluble or insoluble by trying to dissolve such things as salt, sugar, limestone and bicarbonate soda.

"We were expanding vocabulary by talking about opaque verses translucent and making observations from practical activities. We were also learning to name different pieces of laboratory science equipment including test tubes and beakers and how to work safely with glass wear. The photos show the students with their test tubes waiting to see what has dissolved after 30sec of shaking the tube, they have leant about the process of dissolving".
