On Thursday 14 September staff and students participated in various activities for R U OK? day, which promotes mental health awareness and meaningfully connects people to support those who are struggling.
Its aim is to encourage one another to ask the question R U Ok? This nurtures a sense of responsibility to ask others about their difficulties and empowers people to approach someone in times of distress, which can lead to suicide.
At La Salle, the College Counsellors distributed information and presented a short video during PCG. There was a ‘flash mob’ meditation at lunchtime, while others wrote wellness pledges on paper to form a chain.
R U Ok? A question one should ask friends regularly not just on the day, as it provides a sense of belonging which gives strength and relevance to those in need. It is truly Lasallian to look out for another.
